THE SKULLS
The Golden Age Of Piracy (Dr. Strange)
Reviewed by Alan Wright
Earlier this year the Skulls released Therapy For
The Shy, their return to the music world. Hot on the
heels of that comes another new CD, half of which was
recorded at Earl Mankey's studio in California, the other
half of which was recorded here in Seattle, Washington, at Jupiter Studios. I
think this new CD is even better; it's filled with kick
ass singalong punk songs like "Aye, Aye, Aye," "Can
Punk Pay The Bills?" "Have A Nice Day" and "You Can't
Drag Me Down." There's a song about the death of the
Hillside Strangler called "Summer Of Hate," which has
a chorus that goes "Yeah! Yeah! The Hillside
Strangler's dead," which is only half-right 'cause
while Angelo Buono Jr. died in prison last year, the
other guy involved and charged as one of the two
Stranglers, Kenneth Bianchi, is still at Walla Walla.
Still, it's a great tune. The whole CD is really
good, with songs written by all four of the members,
and ends off on a silly note with the unintelligibly
sung "Pirate Song."
