STEVE TURNER
Searching for Melody (Roslyn Recordings)
Reviewed by Holly Day
This whole album irks me. It seems too much like something that's supposed
to be all crusty and wise and reflective, with lots of references to lost
love and the jaded wisdom that comes with age and time, and alcohol, but
the whole package just seems too insincere, as though Mudhoney's Steve
Turner had just suddenly reached a point in his life where he thought he
must have learned something important by now and had to share it with
everybody. Of course, the music on the disc is great, with some awesome
countryfied folk guitar licks, but Turner's lyrics and vocals need to be
soaked in a couple of gallons of rotgut and nicotine to carry the sincerity
these songs beg for.
