Chicken in a barrel music this ain't. Unless Tom Waits plays the part of the Colonel. Judd Palmer sounds a lot like Waits - his whiskey soaked rasp a swell aspect of this blues crazed hillbilly bunch. The Choir sticks to the bare bones basics, bashing and crashing out a primal soul music full of thumps, bottlenecks and banjos. It's a glorious mess of Mississippi delta tunes cranked out by a bunch of Calgarians who play like the devil, but apparently have not made any crossroad deals. It's twisted and gnarled and sinful. Needless to say, it comes highly recommended.
