AUTOMAG
Hellbound (Wulverine)
Reviewed by Holly Day
Automag delivers a hard grunge-metal sound that falls somewhere between
early Motorhead and Alice in Chains. The music thumps along at a determined
pace, the bass and percussion keeping perfect time while the guitar lines
scream out at all the appropriate moments. The vocals blend in with the rhythm
built by the bass-percussion section, with the whole thing barreling along
like a freight train thumping down the railroad tracks. It gets a little
repetitive at times, but I get the feeling that if I had a six pack at my
desk and a couple more numbers on my volume control to turn this up to, I'd
be in headbanger heaven. Lyrically, these songs feature stories like what
you'd expect from this style of music, with songs about abusive fathers and
alcoholic mothers and breakin' the law, Southern boy style.
