BROTHER DANIELSON
Brother: Son (Secretly Canadian)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Like a Shaker worship trance (spinning until a woozy euphoria hits then blacking out), there's nothing quite like a Danielson listening experience. Daniel Smith and his family flock, donning angelic frocks, record unique gospel sounds in an infectious manner. It's a homey, family sing-along led by Smith's croaky falsetto. Sounding like it was recorded in a church basement (actually the New Jerusalem Recreation Room), Brother: Son has a hypnotizing school kids exuberance about it. Smith has toned down his sermon a tad, less about sinning, more about worshipping, and seems more concerned with the music this time around, which is of the toe tapping spiritual variety. Face it, you needed saving this week, right?
