THE DRESDEN DOLLS
self-titled (8ft)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

You can tell that this is serious stuff by all that silence at the beginning. The Dresden Dolls are a campy couple who indulge in thick white make-up whilst performing their grandiose musical, perhaps in hopes of ending up on Broadway. Not that there's anything wrong with that - there's a time to rock, and then there's a time to sashay. Is it goth? Is it camp? More like old time cabaret, filled with manic piano runs and Amanda Plummer's pungent vocals. It's the best bit of Vaudeville since Gavin Friday last stepped up to the mike.
