SHUFFLE DEMONS
Greatest Hits (Stubby)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

Good to hear Spadina Bus again isn't it? Was it twenty years ago today that the Shuffle Demons jumped out of the standard three piece suit to prove that jazz could be bouncy and fun and silly and colourful? Uh, yup. And let's not forget that the Demons could, and still can, play (hey, a reunion I can actually get excited about). Selecting the cream ("Out Of My House Roach," "The Funkin' Pumpkin' " and of course "Hockey Night in Canada Theme") from a scant four albums, Greatest Hits is really all you need: There's only so much jumping and jiving in vibrant cartoonish outfits you can take, and seventy-nine minutes is about right. It's a good primer for the live set, and that's where the real action is.
