CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL
8 titles (Fantasy)

You almost certainly own some of these albums, and you likely own some of them in two or three formats. So why get 'em again?

Well, if you're like me, at least a couple are well worn vinyl, and if you've got the CDs, they're likely to be pretty early examples of the technology. What Fantasy has done is take the Creedence catalog straight to the state of the art with 20 bit K2 Super Coding. It's archive quality reproduction for the archive of one of the hands down best bands the US has ever produced.

They've also gathered up some of the best writers around, including Joel Selvin, Robert Christgau, Dave Marsh, Ed Ward and Ben Fong-Torres to put each disc in musical and historical context. The result transcends the usual scope of liner notes. These are essays and add value to each album.

Of course, you're likely to have your favorites, and it's unlikely any but the hardest core fan is going to pop for the full set right away. If you haven't got an obvious choice, let me suggest The Concert as a good place to start. Originally and erroneously released as The Royal Albert Hall Concert, it's actually a 1970 show from the Oakland Coliseum, right in the heart of the band's Bay Area stomping grounds, and it's full of definitive performances of their best songs.

Fair warning, though. This stuff is like popcorn. Try some and you'll want more. It's OK, though, 'cause it's all good.
