HYPERPLUSH
Hyperplush (Zircon Skye)

Hyperplush is a Ventura, CA based quartet whose debut album should
bust them out of the "local legend" category with just a little luck or
a friendly nod from the music gods (there are no atheists at release
parties). Fronted by the husband and wife duo Jeff (guitar, vocals) and
Loren (bass, cello, vocals) Evans, with an assist from Christine Lund
(vocals, keyboards, guitar) and Chris Jensen (drums), they've crafted a
sound that's variously spooky, funny, spacey and pure pop. As they put
it, slo-mo fusion/smart pop.
More than anything else, this disc is a timely reminder of just how good
some of the bands playing clubs in small markets all across America can
be. Well, not many of them can be this good, I suppose, because this is
real good. It's one of those "the more you hear it, the more you want
to" kind of albums, and I've been hearing it a lot lately. And, oh,
yeah, the arrangements are inventive, the players are tight and the
women are beautiful.
So what are you waiting for? Sink into the deep soft sound of
Hyperplush.
