MUNKAFUST
Down For Days (Pinch Hit)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

Better than average voices, better than average songs and better than average playing may not sound like very high praise, considering how low the common denominator has fallen lately, but it means that when you listen to Munkafust's blend of college-radio rock and jam band groove you're going to hear something that's better than just about anything else you're likely to come across. So why haven't you come across these guys yet? Well, that's show biz.

Down For Days is the fifth release in the quartet's 8 year history, and Pinch Hit is giving them as big a push as the SoCal indie can muster, so if you haven't heard of the band in your parts yet, hopefully you soon will. Lead vocalist/guitarist Evan Brau has some of the strongest pipes and hottest riffs around, Tony Gray's guitar provides ample support and the rhythm section, bassist Jens Funke and drummer Matt Rimer, are jam up and jelly tight, as they say.

This disc is full of strong, hooky tunes that should be all over the radio. They might not be, though, given the sordid state of radio programming at the turn of the century, so you better buy it yourself. If Pinch Hit hasn't penetrated your local market yet, jump on over to www.munkafust.net and check these guys out.
