PADDY CASEY
Amen (So Be It) (Columbia)

Somewhere between Van Morrison and Mike Scott, Paddy Casey has a distinct, passionate voice and a writer's knack that's sure to get him places fast. Busking in Ireland since twelve, Casey enters the big recording world as a seasoned and grizzled veteran all of twenty-four. Perhaps a little too syrupy (I blame major label over-orchestration), this debut sparkles when Casey's voice and guitar are brought up front and the songs have to stand on their own merit. Good stuff, and hopefully, there will be something a little less polished down the line.
