SILVER CONVENTION
Get Up And Boogie With... (Music Club)

Reviewed by DJ Johnson

Sparky Lou usually reviews these things, but since Sparky is still dancing his ass off in Europe (and still not answering his e-mail), it falls to me to cover Silver Convention. While I can now admit there were some good things about the disco era, Silver Convention wasn't among them. I say "wasn't" instead of "weren't" because this really wasn't a they. It was more of a scheme or a corporation. The music was simple to the point of banality, with nothing much going for it except that monotonous beat that everybody wanted at the time (primarily because most of them were too inept to dance to anything as complex as, say, Tower Of Power). The two songs everyone will remember are "Fly, Robin, Fly" and "Get Up And Boogie," both of which had their charms as long as you didn't listen too close. After that, the pickings got might thin, and there are fifteen tracks here, so buyer beware. Then again, if you considered "Fly, Robin, Fly" one of the best songs of the disco era, you'll want this CD. Your call. As for me, well, gimme Rufus any day.
