Scream Of The Crop (Desert Rock)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
Soulfarm has harvested Scream Of The Crop from the jam band landscape, but
they do it while transcending some of the stereotypes that implies.
Certainly C Lanzbom has the guitar chops
to take whatever improvisational flight he desires, and the songs he writes
with bandmates Noah Chase (vocals, guitar) and Mark Ambrosino (drums,
vocals) fit comfortably into the folk-rock vein favored by many of their jam
band compatriots, but the songs are superior, as are their vocal harmonies.
There are times when Scream Of The Crop is reminiscent of Crosby, Stills &
Nash at their vintage best, in fact.
The sound is augmented by a variety of keyboardists, percussionists and
bassists, and Perry Farrell shows up for a guest vocal shot on the last
track, but no matter who helps, Lanzbom, Chase and Ambrosino carry the show
with tight vocals, strong songs and creative play. This one should have
strong appeal for fans new and old.
