HASIL ADKINS
Out To Hunch (Norton)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

Finally out on CD, the classic psychotic hillbilly platter that fuelled a lot of rockinroll fires. This was where Norton records made their name, and without the raving rockabilly lunacy of the Haze, we may not have witnessed the return of unabashed, primal rawk. And here it is again in all its disheveled glory: "I Need Your Head," "Chicken Walk," "No More Hot Dogs," the much covered "She Said" and of course, the immortal number one sin song of all time "The Hunch." While Elvis was stirring it up in Memphis, Hasil was creating voodoo psychobilly in his West Virginia hill shack. Hasil Adkins was, and still is to this day, the wildest one man band of all time, and there ain't no better testament to his misdirected prowess than this collection.
