JESSE LEGE & EDWARD POULLARD
Live at the Isleton Crawdad Festival (Arhoolie)
Reviewed by Eric Steiner
Jesse Lege and Edward Poullard are two traditional Louisiana musicians steeped in Cajun and Creole tradition. The Cajun French Music Association has honored Lege several times for his accordion work and vocals, and Poullard carries on Creole traditions on the fiddle. Together, they're an inspiring duo with direct links to Louisiana's musical past. This Arhoolie mid-priced CD captures them live at the Isleton Crawdad Festival. Isleton is known as "Crawdad USA," and each year around Father's Day weekend this Northern California town goes crazy with Cajun, Creole and Zydeco music and food. The Cajun All-Stars join Jesse and Edward on 13 down-home Cajun, Creole and Zydeco songs, and Billy Wilson and Martin Jara on guitar, with David "Killer" Hymowitz on drums and Steven Strauss on bass round out quite a party, Louisiana style.
