RED SEPTEMBER
Wake Up Call (Static Records)
Reviewed by DJ Johnson
If you're reading this, the odds are pretty good that you've done your share of
surfing the web, and that raises the odds that you'll get a kick out of "WWW,"
Red September's slamming power pop tune about sinking deeper and deeper into the
dot.world while the real world fades away. There are plenty of hooks, both musical
and lyrical, throughout Wake Up Call, a CD that's been out since late last year and
deserves an audience. "Killjoy," a song aimed right between the eyes of authority,
has an extremely funny chorus, and the song's so catchy Norton's Anti-Virus software
should have a fix for it. There's nothing revolutionary here, but it's just about all
good, fun music, with nice vocal harmonies and solid songs to hang them on, with guitars
that are 70/30 jangle/crunch. Wake Up Call is absolutely worth your dollars if you're
a power pop fan. I've got them on my watch list to see how things are progressing by
album two.
