ROCKET FROM THE TOMBS
The Day The Earth Met (Glitterhouse)
Reviewed by Alan Wright
This has been a long time coming. Previously only available on bootlegs,
this collection of proto-punk insanity offers great insight into the band
that gave birth to both Pere Ubu and the Dead Boys. Culled from live tapes
and a primitive live demo known in collector's circles as "The Loft Tape,"
you get incredible songs like "So Cold," "Ain't It Fun," "30 Seconds Over
Tokyo," "Down In Flames" and much more. Incredibly, there are even a couple
of tunes that have failed to circulate previously, one of which is a great
cover of the Velvet Underground's "Foggy Notion." Essential.
