SILVERCRUSH
Stand (Redline)

Salt Lake City's best known musical export to date may be the Mormon
Tabernacle Choir, but Silvercrush is poised to give them a run for their
money, and while their audiences may not have much overlap, the rockers are
every bit as good in their chosen field as the choral group is in theirs.
This isn't particularly original in style, tending toward a classic arena
rock sound, but frontman Steele Croswhite is an excellent songsmith with a
voice that's perfect for the emotionally rich material he writes. Produced
by John Mellencamp guitarist Mike Wahchic, the band is well presented,
displaying excellent ensemble chops if lacking in stellar solo performances.
Capitalizing on their appearance at the Winter Olympics with this debut
recording and a tour supporting Sheryl Crow, Ziggy Marley and other
notables, these guys should have lighters waving in the air from coast to
coast soon, and if their live show is as impressive as this album, their own
headlining days can't be far away.
