GIRL TROUBLE
The Illusion of Excitement (Wig Out!)

Reviewed by Alan Wright

The Girl Trouble albums seem to come out less frequently, but no less full of the twistin' dance party garage rock action we know and love them for. This is the second release on their own label, and the first since 1998's Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays CD. With the trademark sound still very intact, Girl Trouble have created yet another infectious CD of outstanding quality. From the opener "Community Creep" to the closer, this is unbridled rock and roll music made for both dancing and romancing. K.P.'s voice is in great form here, and he adds some cool sax to the cooking instro tune "Simulator" and the slow burner "Going Going Go For It (Theme From "Go For It Summer"). Kahuna stretches a bit more with his varied guitar sounds, from rockabilly-ish to surf twang to heavier punk styles, while Bon and Dale keep the rhythm going. There's even a cool version of Brook Benton & Dinah Washington's "Rockin' Good Time" (with Kahuna doing the Dinah bit!) and a totally deranged version of Rosco Gordon's "Just A Little Bit."
