P.W. LONG
Remembered (Touch and Go)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

As far as I can figger, P.W. is still with us. Though this here slab sure points to a passing of some kind or another. Not that there hasn't been dire material emanating from Preston's camp before, but the last record had glimpses of light with a smattering of Philly style soul organ in the mix; Remembered dips right back into the swamp country/blues tribulations that only a voice and guitar can conjure. Whisky rough for the most part, there's a couple of uppity southern fried numbers that recall Long's long gone days with Mule when they were in a hillbilly mood. Always seemingly out of control, Long's rambling ditties have a raw, desperate power few can muster. Here's a good opportunity to catch up on a distinct voice in rock that has, and probably will continue to, flown well under the radar.
