THE RAMBLIN AMBASSADORS
Avanti (Mint)
Reviewed by DJ Johnson
Someone told me I should hear this new rockabilly band, so I gave it a few listens and I swear I just don't hear the rockabilly. I hear a band that plays instrumental rock and roll with elements of surf and spaghetti western and makes a big sound, splashing just enough reverb around to turn big into huge. Their melodies have cool-appeal aplenty, too. That's not to say there's anything here that's going to inspire a whole new sub-genre of surf, because under the power and the pretty sounds there's nothing that really distinguishes them from a handful of other bands in the genre. Nobody says you have to be, though, as long as you're entertaining, and they certainly are that. They can also play their instruments quite well, so add 'em to the "pretty durn good" list.
