SHINER MASSIVE
Shiner Massive (Slash/BiggMassive)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
Built around the partnership of Ill Will Fulton, whose production credits
include Run DMC, Ja Rule and Slick Rick, and Larry "Son Shiner" Devore,
whose done studio work with Wu-Tang, Nas and others, Shiner Massive is a
unique entry in the rock-rap world. I say unique because unlike most any
other act that draws that tag, in Shiner Massive the rappers can and the
rockers do.
With bassist Kareem Bunton and drummer J. Vega filling out the roster,
Shiner Massive combines a potent blend of conscious rap, huge beats and rock
energy, sifts it all through a Brooklyn sensibility, and serves up music you
need to hear and will want to listen to. It's angry, explosive, hopeful and
helpful. It's the diagnosis and the cure. It's Shiner Massive, and I'm
looking forward to a lot more of it.
In fact, there's already more of it! Along with the CD, there's a bonus DVD
of Shiner Massive in performance, and if the sounds don't get you (a
circumstance I can't imagine), the sights will.
