The Separation of Church & Hate (Silber)
Reviewed by Holly Day
Crazy electronic and ambient music rife with samples of people talking
about the evils of Proctor & Gamble, repeated riffs of a slide guitar,
thunderous drums randomly struck and stuck way in the background, and synth
samples, all provided by multi-instrumentalist Scotty Irving. From the
titles and from the matched-up bits of words spoken throughout the album,
there's a religious, albeit highly irreverently religious, theme that ties
this album together. Especially good is the track titled "Hadephobia,"
where a narrator explains exactly what one must do to stay out of Hell, as
well as a lengthy explanation of what Hell is-and all set to a highly
danceable beat, no less.
