LISALA
Get It (Anoka)

I'm trying out this new form of self-punishment where every time a record
comes in the mail, I make myself listen to the whole thing all the way
through before passing judgment. I think it's because I married a Catholic
that such things have become part of my daily routine, that a certain
amount of self-flagellation has to accompany every waking moment, and
sometimes even during the night, when I'm feeling guilty that my husband
didn't grab himself a thick enough blanket out of the closet on cold
nights, so I give him mine, then don't get out of bed to grab another one
because I don't want to wake him up. Anyway, yes, listening to this record
all the way through falls under the category of self-flagellation. It's
that particular brand of soul music that has no real soul, with songs that
have lots of singing but no real lyrics, and a background band that doesn't
do much except use the same looped musical samples over and over. It's just
torture to listen to, and the whole time I did, I couldn't wait until it
was over so I could listen to something better.
