MEGAN JEROME TRIO
Unlonely (Ind)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Anyone still stuck in the Diana Krallspace may find aural escape with Megan Jerome. Vocals and piano, jazzy style, can be a two sided coin, but when delivered with spunk and playfulness is salvation itself. Jerome doesn't get all caught up in snooty jazz, nor does she fall back on regurgitating tired standards, instead she concocts a cabaret disc of originals that is as folky as it is jazzy, jumping from steamy noir to frank silliness. The trio is fab in its subtle, clear and bouncy delivery, giving the spotlight to a voice which it richly deserves. Hey, who knew crooning could be such a gas?
