CYCLEFLY
Generation Sap (Radioactive)
Reviewed by
Eric Steiner
Cyclefly's Generation Sap is an aural explosion of new rock that's outfront
and loud. This European five piece has crafted 11 songs that range from the
melodic and wistful "Whore" to metal inspired opening cuts of "Violet High"
and "Crawl Down." Guitarist Ciaran O'Shea supports his brother Declan on
vocals, with Nona Preston on guitar. The rhythm section of Christian
Montangne on bass and Jean Michel Cavallo power Cyclefly through "Plastic
Coated Man," which is one of the disc's many high-powered highlights. The
band's name comes from a painting done by Declan, and the disc's cover art
done by Perou is as jarring as Ciaran's blistering metal leads. There's a
lot of new rock out these days and Cyclefly sets themselves apart with 11
strong songs produced by Sylvia Massey (Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Skunk
Anansie). Check out Cyclefly on their label's web site at

band's URL, http://ww.cyclefly.com.
Better yet, catch them live on their Fall 1999 tour supporting Generation
Sap.
