Rhythm Logic (Zebra)

Rhythm Logic's self-titled debut Zebra disc features 10 tracks from players
who've been around the jazz block once or twice. Keyboardist Brian Simpson's
toured with Stanley Clarke, Najee and George Benson, and Michael White has
made a living in L.A. as a session player and a mainstay behind the drum kit
for the popular soul outfit Frankie Beverly and Maze. Guitarist Ron Smith's
done session work with Patti LaBelle, and bassist Dwayne Smith has toured
with Kirk Whalum, Tom Scott and James Ingram. Rhythm Logic brings these
musicians together to break into the crowded smooth jazz market. Those
smooth jazz bona fides aside, Rhythm Logic is sure to please fans of fellow
Zebra stripes Jeff Lorber and Bill Evans. Guest vocalist Maysa Leek
(Incognito) shines on two standout covers: Donald Fagen's "I.G.Y.", going
from New York to Paris, undersea by rail; and the funky Earth, Wind and Fire
hit "Fantasy." The band's first single, "Full Speed" highlights Smith's
guitar, and the disc's closer "The First Time" showcases Brian Simpson's
flawless piano. There's an audience for Rhythm Logic out there and these
guys will be big on the smooth jazz scene. After just one listen, it's only
logical.
