Cool Sounds from a Hot Club (Music Club)

There are a lot of companies specializing in re-issues and compilations out
there. One peek in the discount bins in any music store in the mall will
tell you. Britain's Music Club is one of the best, producing high quality
discs for around $10, complete with high quality pressings and informative
liner notes. Music Club's set from Ronnie Scott's club is a must for jazz
fans. There's Sonny Stitt's "My Mother's Eyes" and Irakere's "Las
Margaritas," both great examples of great sax. Cool Sounds from a Hot Club
features over 73 minutes of classic jazz, and it's all recorded live at one
of London's most treasured jazz clubs. For musicians and fans alike, a trip
to Ronnie Scott's is as British as Westminster Abbey or the Tower of London.
Ruth Brown's "Loverman" is a heartfelt tribute to Billie Holliday and Lady Day
would be proud. Arturo Sandoval's trumpet and flugelhorn light up "Blues 88"
with the Chucho Valdes Quartet, and Ronnie himself sits in on sax on "I'm
Glad There is You." There's a lot of great music on Cool Sounds from a Hot
Club as jazz greats have played Ronnie Scott's club for over 40 years.
There's a lot more music where that came from and I'm waiting for the boxed
set!
