GT STRINGER
Space Out (Tremelo 10)

Rich guitar textures, swirling Hammond organ, stirring bass and drums, and that intense,
growling saxophone! Let the joyous news be spread: GT Stringer's back with their fourth
CD, Space Out. The best instro band in Australia and, in my humble opinion, one of the
two or three best on the planet comes up with yet another gem. This one seems to be their
nod to The Ventures In Space, with titles like "Interstellar Woodie," "Astro Gringo,"
"The Mooner" and "Space Ranger," all of which sound just like their titles. Bassist Dennis
Kipridis has a tone that has always knocked me out, but when he launches into a solo in
"Captain Clutch Wanger's Space Suit Wedgie" I instantly move him up a dozen notches on the
"Bass Heroes" list. The indredients that we expect from Stringer are all here, from the
clean and spacious sound to the deep grooves and, above all, fantastic musicianship. Oh,
and their trademark sense of humor, often expressed in very subtle ways, is right in place.
It remains something of a chore to get ahold of Stringer CDs, but I promise it's worth every
bit of effort short of swimming to Australia. Cross my heart.
