THE HANGMEN
Metallic I.O.U. (Acetate)

Do you know about The Hangmen? They've been kicking around the LA music scene for 15 long
years, and while they've had a lot of comings and goings within the band the song has remained
the same. We're talkin' hard-hitting, gritty rock and roll. Imagine if Johnny Thunders had
replaced Mick Taylor instead of Ronnie Wood. Some Girls might have sounded like this. Some
of this, anyway. There are straight-forward power rockers like "Loners, Junkies and Liquor
Stores" and "Downtown," stomp-n-strutters like "Broke, Drunk and Stoned," and a compellingly
fatalistic little country lament called "Bent" that is priceless. It's all good. In fact,
it's definitely the CD of the moment in the Cosmik Office, and it's getting red-hot from
so much spinning in the player. Truth is, it's very hard to stop listening to. Maybe that's
because there aren't very many new releases out there that remind you of what rock and roll
was at its best.
