HUEVOS RANCHEROS
Muerte Del Toro (Mint)

The Calgary boys set themselves up for a Ventures backlash by opening their latest guitar
string bender of an album with "Diamond Head". Instead of the intricate percussion work of the
sixties nugget, Huevos Rancheros play it up raw, with a thrilling organ grinding throughout.
The addition of electric and acoustic keyboards on several tracks does add a bit of depth, but
this is still all about Brent Cooper and his sparkly guitar. There may not be another ax master
around who can whip up the ghosts of Link Wray and Dick Dale (trust me, they're dead) like the
pogoing Cooper, and we must bow for our good fortune. Oh, and as has become a pleasant custom,
fellow Calgarian Tomb handles all the superb artwork.
