The Powerpuff Girls (Rhino)

Don't kid yerself, the adventures of Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup (saving Townsville, before
bedtime of course) ain't relegated to the kiddie set. Ever since adults discovered Rocky &
Bullwinkle there has been a smattering of adult material infiltrating Saturday morning
television. The Powerpuff Girls are no exception. The parent grab being a decidedly coy sense
of humour and a retro lounge feel (the attitude, sets and adult dialogues catering to the
cocktail generation). The resulting two dimensional goldmine means boffo ratings, an action
figure line and a chart storming soundtrack. You know this show is hip when the likes of Devo,
Frank Black and Optiganally Yours not only offer up their services, but write smashing tunes as
they say in the biz "inspired by the show". But wait there's more! Perky pop fun from the likes
of Shonen Knife (who could be models for the crime-fighting grrrls), Bis and Komeda are a
perfect fit for the big-eyed day-saving girls. They're cute, cuddly, squeaky clean, they beat
the crap outta the bad guys, and now they have a bouncy pop album to see you through the week.
What fun!
