THE VILLAS
Secrets (Think Tank Records)

Bill and Angel Ali Villas' self produced debut features ten tune that
express all of the features that attract people to pop music. They can
write a romantic song, but season the sentiment with wit. The
arrangements are straightforward, but Angel can say more with a brief
guitar fill than most pickers can say with an extended solo. The sound is
designed to deliver the melody and lyric of a song, not to impress you
with the virtuosity of the presenter, but pulling that off is a pretty
exceptional display of virtuosity in and of itself. Acoustic and electric
guitars are blended in a way that can only be described as "jangly," as
much as it pains me to use such a cliched term in reference to music that
is anything but cliched.
Good songs, well played and well sung. An amazingly rare commodity in a
world so filled with musical "product." Get ahold of something rare. get
ahold of Secrets.
