Walter "Wolfman" Washington's soulful vocals make for one of the most distinctive voices on the blues scene today. On The Prowl is stuffed with street-funky rhythms and tight brass sounds. Washington draws his influences as much from the jazz of Wes Montgomery as from the blues of Bobby "Blue" Bland, and blends them with styles taken from a near encyclopedic knowledge of blues styles. Considered one of New Orleans' best musicians, Washington's been playing the blues for 40 years and is unquestionably one of that city's best musicians. On The Prowl is modern soul music, and arguably Washington's finest of recent output on Rounder. Produced by Scott Billington.
