THE ALARM CLOCKS
Yeah! (Norton)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

The Alarm Clocks were, for a brief shining moment in the sixties, the toast of the Cleveland suburb of Parma, Ohio. Like teenage garage bands elsewhere, they played a circuit of school dances, Legion halls, armories and parties, and managed to release one 45rpm record. The garage archeologists at Norton have unearthed enough tape to stretch that original 45 ("Yeah" b/w "No Reason To Complain") into a 12 track album. Included are 7 cuts recorded for the benefit of potential promoters, which reflect the bands command of the standard range of garage fare from "Louie Louie" to chart toppers from the Kinks, Stones and Beatles. Three extremely rough takes from guitarist Bruce Boehm's earlier tenure in an outfit called The Perceptions round out the collection.

Of interest to Clevelander's of a certain vintage and garage rock historians, Yeah! is a good portrait of the kinds of sounds produced by kids all over the country in the mid-sixties. If you're old enough, you either knew these guys or some guys just like them who played the very same songs in the very same style. And you know what? It still sounds great! Yeah!

Track List:

Yeah * No Reason To Complain * Louie Louie * Money * It's All Over Now * Bald Headed Woman * I'm Alright * She's About A Mover * Route 66 * Wipe Out (The Perceptions) * I'm A Fool (The Perceptions) * Tree Stump Theme (The Perceptions)
