CALEXICO
Even My Sure Things Fall Through (Quarterstick)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Sweeping mariachi dust bowl ballads are a dangerous addiction. Innocuous
sounding, the sonic waves penetrate via the aural cavity, infiltrating storage
spaces designed for anxiety and depression, rendering the victim defenseless in
a hazy state of dreamy comfort and opiate-like bliss. Calexico should be taken
in small doses, with the correct prescription, and only on the assurance and
total recommendation of the proper authorities. Warning: this dosage also
contains a three cocktail visual stimulant that may prove too enticing to avoid.
