CLICK THA SUPAH-LATIN
Square Won (Underload/Vivid)
Reviewed by Jason Thornberry
Beat-boxin', the art of making drums and samples
with your mouth, is now an old-school pastime
(see "Son of Byford," Run DMC, 1986, "A One Two"
by Biz Markie, 1986, or "Stick ‘Em" by The Fat
Boys, 1984). With sampling at the forefront for
years now, and the crates picked nearly clean of
funky breaks, where's technology to go next? Back
to the future. Back to Click Tha Supah-Latin, who
smoothly bounces between (quite literally)
producing his own songs, to rhyming smoothly over
them.
Jurassic 5, D.O.A. and Medusa all step into the
frame from time to time. J5 has the most
memorable style, though, with their immediately
recognizable group vocals, and compliment
Click's energy superbly. A fun album.
