CROOKED COUNTY
Drunkard's Lament (Rustic)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
In the true spirit of Waylon Jennings, Crooked County play boozy twang tunes of
personal depression and make it an enjoyable listen. Tear in my beer
reminiscences can drown in cliche ridden prose, but this County manage to ring
their sorrow true. Mebbe it's the wonderful, restrained instrumental prowess.
Mebbe it's the homey interplay of the band. Mebbe it's the cowboy hats. What I
enjoy most is when stand up bass player Merrie Sloan pipes in with her
wonderful, ready to yodel voice. Especially when the backing mandolin and harp
playing is as sweet as on the glorious "L & N Railroad". A keeper of course.
