THE DANIELSON FAMILY
Fetch The Compass Kids (Secretly Canadian)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Even after a slew of records the Danielson clan still sounds like a buncha kids
huddled together for their inaugural church choir session. The voices creak and
crack and sing gloriously, barely keeping up with the choppy piano or acoustic
guitar melodies. Led by the whimsical wit and distinct falsetto screech of
Daniel Smith, this cultish (in a nice way) family affair defies all odds by
churning out heaven sent gospel folk, geared at the geeky college set looking
for salvation after muddling their youth with Half Japanese vinyl. "Hush, hush,
what's the rush?" Indeed. You need saving? Look no further.
