PATO BANTON
Live At The Maritime (2B1)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Armed with the Reggae Revolution, Pato Banton delivers a stirring live set of
classic standards at San Francisco's Bob Marley Day festival. Known chiefly for
his toasting, Banton shows he can also deliver some soulful singing. Dipping
into the Marley catalogue, Banton reworks "Exodus" and "Jamming", then slips in
his own crucial contribution to reggae, "Don't Sniff Coke". His distinct
arrangements, probably best known on The Police's "Spirits in a Material World",
are what makes the album bounce right along.
