PROFESSOR GRIFF
And The Word Became Flesh (The Right Stuff/Capitol)

I hate to just point toward the obvious about
this record, but the obvious is so much louder
than everything else. Fired by Public Enemy for
his moronic, homophobic, and anti-Semitic
comments made in an interview, but reinstated for
some reason, Professor Griff always seemed about
a little less necessary to Public Enemy than,
say, Yoko Ono, or a soup sandwich. I have almost
everything by PE, but I never
grabbed one of their cds from the racks to hear
what Professor Griff had to say. You can argue
all day about the virtues of Flavor Flav, but he
was Public Enemy as much as
Terminator X, or Mistachuck (see "Show ‘Em Whatca
Got," or "911 Is A Joke" for quick reference)!
And The Word Became Flesh is
mostly the sound of one angry man hating and
sermonizing. I think he'd be able to put an
entire album together about how the pizza not
arriving at his house on time last night was a
conspiracy! Fun stuff indeed. If you purchase
music to feel bad about holding this guy down
somehow, then buy two copies of this. My guess is
you won't, and he'll get dropped. What a dick.
