IN THIS ISSUE OF COSMIK DEBRIS: Music's "everything-man," Skip
Heller, is finally rounded up for a Cosmik Conversation, as is Bob Log III. Plus, we take
close looks at country artist Grey De Lisle and Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival, remember jazz
giant Lionel Hampton, and check in with the 13 O'Clock News. Add to that DVD reviews, concert
reviews, and book reviews, not to mention well over 100 CD reviews, and our special brew of
Cosmik Columns, and you've got yet another great issue of Cosmik Debris Magazine, Jack.
COSMIK RADIO!:
It's still the older show,
because we're just too exhausted
from making the magazine to make
a new Cosmik Radio. But we're
talkin' about it, so watch this
space, and listen again, if the
mood strikes.
You just need a RealAudio
Player to listen.
If you don't have one, go pick
one up. Cosmik Radio is just
the kind of Net-Only audio that radio
station program directors don't
want you getting hooked on. So go
ahead. Inhale!

SKIP HELLER - THE WILD CARD COMES UP ACES - His career continues
to be one of the most unusual in music, but this musician of jazz, country, bluegrass,
rockabilly and other genres, who wears about a dozen hats beyond that of "musician," sees
it all as business as usual. DJ Johnson attempts to figure out what makes Skip tick.
CLAP YOUR TITS WITH BOB LOG III - Bob Log III is a crazy man, Holly Day says, introducing her interview with the man. Crazy fun, it sounds like. His one man blues band show sometimes brings the party on upstage, where the gals play along with "Clap Your Tits," from his latest album. The suit he wears when doing his shows is something to see too... and smell apparently!
A DAY AT BUMBERSHOOT - Eric Steiner and his son attended Seattle's end-of summer festival this year and introduced each other to some new music: Eric's son was initiated by Otis Taylor and Richard Thompson, and Eric heard Jerry Cantrell, some of Seattle's hardest rock.
NO MISTAKE: GREY DE LISLE - She has an incredible voice that you have probably heard before, but never like this. DJ Johnson tells you why it would be a mistake to miss it.
MEMORIES OF LIONEL HAMPTON - Jazz was played all the time in Eric Steiner's home when he was growing up. Lionel Hampton was a particular favorite. Eric remembers his father's love of the music, and taking his aging father to meet Hampton backstage after a show a few years before his father passed on to where Hampton is now.
TIME FOR THE THIRTEEN O'CLOCK NEWS - It's time once again for the news as we see it: 13 O'Clock High. Get the latest and most accurate International, National, Human Indifference, Sports, Financial, Entertainment and Weather news, right here in Cosmik Debris Magazine.
CD & RECORD REVIEWS - This month we bring you an unbelievable 110+ reviews. Nothing goes uncovered. Nothing. Well, except for the Wicked Lady, of course.
EVERYTHING ELSE IN REVIEW - DVDs, books and concerts reviewed for your pleasure.
CLOSET PHILOSOPHY - Rusty Pipes reminds us that we will never be 100% secure, no matter how many defense dollars we spend or how many potential enemies we destroy.
COSMIK BLUES - A look at the Great Tomato Blues Package and another glance at the Steepwater Band with Eric Steiner.
GARY PIG GOLD - If you don't know about Puffy AmiYumi yet, Gary thinks you should - enough so that he has dedicated his column space this month to a concert review of the band in Toronto by his friend Martin Goodman.
MASS APPEAL MADNESS - Jason Thornberry is in Boxed Set Heaven this month. Check out the boxed sets you need, the boxed sets the world needs world needs, and the boxed sets you definitely DON'T need.
MEDIA CURMUDGEON - What is with all the damned dirty talk on television today? Karl Cable can tell ya. Seems like he thinks there should be MORE...
KEEPING IT REEL - There's no such thing as "movie stars" anymore, Bill Holmes laments. What happened to truly good acting? Is there any hope for truly "classic" movies in our future?

CREDITS - The names and e-mail
addresses of the
people responsible
for this thing.
COSMIK RADIO - Want an
hour of music that
fits the
personality of Cosmik Debris Magazine? That's right, Sinatra segues into
Megadeth into
Peter Tosh into Man Or Astro-Man into... well, you get the picture. It's a
little something
we like to call Genre Whiplash. Or maybe you're in the mood for a trip into The
Fog Machine,
our mix of music of the ethereal variety. All you need is a RealAudio player.
Come on in.
OUR OWN WEBSITES - Many of the
Cosmik Debris
writers have websites of their own. We have some links right here.
It's September 11th, and we all know what that means. Putting the issue out on
this date is kind of creepy, but this is the day it's finally ready to go, so today
it is. Words escape me at the moment, so I'll just tell you that this issue has an
interesting coincidence that was, I swear, totally unplanned. We interview Skip Heller,
an artist who plays in several styles, one of which is country, and has also worked in
the cartoon music industry, creating tunes for Dexter's Laboratory, among others. We
also have an article about country singer Grey De Lisle. Besides being a fantastic new
musical talent, she's had a very successful career as a voice actor in the cartoon industry.
Among her gigs: Dexter's Laboratory. Honest, we noticed after we did the De Lisle article. File it under "it's a small world" and enjoy another issue of Cosmik Debris
Magazine.
