CHUCK PROPHET
No Other Love (New West)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Chuck's on a roll. Down and dirty guitar, a rusty rasp of a voice, and a sludgy snail's pace makes for a twisted country blues slab of love gone bad, love gone wrong, love simply gone. Desperately gorgeous stuff here as Chuck pours what's left of his heart out in song. Prophet's evocative guitar mastery, long an in demand studio gift, now gets to spar with a distinctly penetrating voice. Folks are always searching for honest, rootsy Americana; they shall find it right here, and Chuck sneaks in some new touches to keep him well ahead of the game.
