THE FLIPSIDES
Clever One (Pink & Black Records)
Reviewed by Holly Day
Boppy, poppy punk songs with a lead singer (Sabrina Stewart) that reminds me
of 80's pop divas like Pat Benatar and Blondie, some weird stylistic cross
between the two. The music is tight and happy-sounding, with lots of power
chords and not a lot of straying from the three-chord system that permeates
pop music - the lyrics are pretty angry and snotty, which is cool, and funny
enough to keep them from becoming whiney or pedantically bitchy. Kind of
like hearing the Ramones with a chick singer, The Flipsides are one of the
better smarty-pants college radio bands I've heard in a while.
