THE GHOST
This is a Hospital (Some Records)

I would like this a lot more if there weren't already about a hundred bands
out there that sounded similar to this, because these guys are actually
pretty good. The intelligent lyrics are deliciously maudlin and depressing,
with lots of references to heartbreak and anger and death and getting sad
and drunk, shouted loudly over a backdrop of multiple guitars played in
minor chords and pounding drums, with each song following that pre-ordained
pattern of melodic interlude-explosive refrain-melodic interlude-explosive
refrain that's written somewhere into the Emo Code of Conduct. This would be
great to listen to if I was sixteen - actually, I'd probably really dig it if
I was sixteen. Yeah.
