JOHN TRUDELL
Bone Days (Daemon Records)
Reviewed by Holly Day
John Trudell has been very cool in the past, one of the few folk/spoken word
performers I can stand, but this CD is pretty off what I've come to expect
from him. I mean, he's always been deep and thoughtful and worldly and
spiritual, but this record takes all that too far, to the point where once
he was deep, he comes off as cliché, and the Native American chants in the
background sound more comical than spiritual. Perhaps his recent
appointment as Creative Advisor to Angelina Jolie's All Tribes Foundation
has gotten to his head, and his best work comes from being ignored and
oppressed instead of revered and respected.
