LACH
Kids Fly Free (Fortified Records)
Reviewed by Holly Day
So what can I say? I come from a generation where political diatribes,
especially in music, seem pointless and preachy, and I'd rather hear about
how fun it is to give up and die than get up and fight. Lach obviously
doesn't belong to that generation, or philosophy, or whatever, and these
punk-folk-psychedelic songs are rife with references to revolution, and the
sneakiness of the government, and the trouble with America in general, all
sung in Lach's rabble-rousing growl. Heck, there's even a cover of a Woodie
Guthrie song here--adapted to fit Lach's revolutionary ideal, of course.
These are cool little pop songs, with great instrumentation and singing and
boy, what optimism (except for the love songs, which are pretty
pessimistic)! Makes me want to hug the whole fucking world.
