LOWGOLD
Just Backward of Square (Nude)

I hear definite remnants of latter-period Fanclub
(Teenage) here -- vocally to be precise.
This thanks to chief songwriter Darren Ford, and
Simon Scott, the drummer, who looks to have
actually stepped off the cover of a Secret Affair
album to play on this one.
The songwriting in Lowgold seems to focus on
lingering quiet spaces that a plethora of
harsher, angrier bands would use as spots
(milliseconds) to catch their breath in. Instead
of an audible retrieval of oxygen before going
"AAAAAAAAGGHHHH!" they've stayed right
in there.
Through recent support slots with Grandaddy and
Coldplay it looks as though Lowgold's way of
easing into things slowly is paying off.
Blowing west is a new laid back mind-set of the
tumbling tumbleweeds of an Arizona Prairie by way
of their St. Albans homestead, where this band
invite you to drink less coffee and just unwind
with them. "Rest easy. Your life ain't over yet."
A strong suggestion to the guy who nearly killed
me on the highway this afternoon would be to melt
this cd down and inject it into his eye socket.
Listening to it is an even better idea.
