What Does Good Luck Bring? (In Music We Trust)
Reviewed by DJ Johnson
Former Heatmiser Neil Gust's second album as captain of his own
ship is a satisfying collection of pop tunes offering proof that
he's worthy of command. Avoiding cliches that could just make
them some fast cash, the band bring us good music instead. Where
they could easily toss a heard-it-all-before-but-it-sells power
chord explosion with wailing vocal, they'd rather let a gentle slide
guitar and a far off harmonica carry the song - and your imagination -
to the next destination. What Does Good Luck Bring is sincerely
recommended for fans of indie pop of the subtle and introspective
variety and those who enjoy music worth paying attention to in all
facets from lyrics to melody to embellishments. Neil Gust seems to
be serious about this band and I suspect it's going to be among the top
dogs on the indie scene by album 4 or so.
