DJ RAP
Touching Bass (Surge)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
DJ Rap, the reigning diva of drum & bass, put it best herself. "I've got
this rule," she told Paper mag. "Beats for the feet. Vocals for the heart.
And bass for the groin. Without these, there is no tune."
Whatever else you say about DJ Rap (AKA Charissa Saverio), you gotta admit,
by that measure, she's got tune. The proof is all over this two disc set,
split into sets titled 'drum & bass' and 'breaks.' One of the most inventive and influential
talents to break out of the British drum & bass scene, DJ Rap continues to
conquer new horizons without abandoning her house roots. The proof is in
this mix of original and remixes of sounds
from Danny C, Sonic & Silver, Rage, Dylan Rhymes and more that echo the
origins of the rave scene and point to the future of dance music. These are
26 tracks of body music, 26 reasons to party. That's more than enough
reasons to add it to your life.
